Today I found myself feeling incredibly frustrated. I had just received an email from a property management “customer service coordinator” telling me that the property that I was interested in had been rented. This was after we had scheduled a viewing for last night, him not showing up, emailing this morning to reschedule for tonight, THEN telling me that there was already a hold on the property by a separate leasing agent and that there were two other showings already scheduled in the morning. My chances were slim and the afternoon email confirmation of yet another missed lease pushed me in to frustration mode.
I knew long before arriving in Nanaimo that it would be difficult to find a place. However, I still brought my positive and hopeful attitude to brave through these inevitable hurdles. So after the email reply, I took a few deep breaths and went for a long walk (tallied up 9 kms total today!). As I meandered through the neighbourhood, I slowly began to feel less tense and started to recharge my hopeful attitude. Then, quite literally, as I was turning at a corner, there was a rainbow! With an added hint of a double rainbow in the southern portion of the arch. Needless to say, I took this as a good sign that everything was going to work out how it should and I just had to keep trucking along.
So I decided that I may as well put this out there and see what comes back. I don’t feel that my needs for my own place are too outrageous:
- 1 bedroom
- Pet friendly
- Central to North Nanaimo (preferably more central though)
- Between $1000-$1200/month (utilities included... I have seen this range on listings, I just haven’t been able to view/apply to them quick enough)
- Laundry in suite/building
- Close(ish) to a grocery store
- Close(ish) to transit and/or E&N trail
While I’m on this role of sharing, my wish list would also include:
- View of the ocean (full or partial or close enough to walk to within 10 mins)
- Easy access to bike/walking trails network
- Bright and open concept
- Hardwood/laminate floors
Not too much to ask right?!
So with my newly fueled up positivity tank I decided to eat my feelings with a bowl full of ramen. Comforting and warm - perfect for the beginning of some "real fall" rain for the next few days.
