It has been over a year since I suffered from PMS. Back aches, mood swings, and general overall discomfort. All the usual suspects. And to be honest it wasn't only during "that time of the month" but rather sporadically yet seemed to concentrate during the week before that magical time. What was my cure? Seeing a naturopath that helped me find a more balanced life. I thought it was all about an ovarian cyst I had developed at the time that had led me to seek her advice and treatments... but after our first appointment it became immediately clear that there were seemingly countless things from past emotional traumas to current financial factors that were my real PMS.
Once I worked through many of my problems with an open and honest heart and mind in addition to health support from the naturopath I found I was having fewer symptoms month-to-month. Eventually, I would go months before feeling any of those old PMS feelings but now I had a new tool - in tuned body awareness and recent recall of what had been stressing me out. It has now been over three years since I started this journey to heal myself and I feel that I am a much healthier and happier person from all the positive personal work done.
Long story short, I recently watched the TEDxSBU video below which discusses this topic from a scientific point of view - which I totally am on board with - and I truly hope that many women (and men!) out there watch this and start taking steps towards getting to the centre of their individual issues. Using the blanket label of "PMS" has done so much more harm than any good. I didn't fully realize this myself until recently and I sincerely hope that by sharing this that others can begin their own self healing journey as well.
